mtes Neural Networks to Form Business Alliance with U.S. Semiconductor Company QuickLogic
Joint development in Edge AI Module and time-series data processing

Internet of Things (IoT) technology developer mtes Neural Networks Co., Ltd. (Location: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo; President & CEO Takaro Harada; referred as mtesNN hereinafter) will form a business alliance with U.S. semiconductor solution provider QuickLogic (Location: Sunnyvale, California; President & CEO Brian C. Faith) on November 21, 2018, in the joint development of the Edge AI (artificial intelligence) Module and time series data processing.

IoT and AI, which are being increasingly developed globally, face the issue of the load by growing information volume in the cloud. Edge AI is being developed by equipping artificial intelligence into IoT sensors and other endpoint devices increases calculation speeds, thereby reducing information volume load on the cloud.

mtesNN has developed Structural Health Monitoring, which detects the slope of structures in real time, and Energy Health Monitoring, which manages energy in buildings such as electricity and gas in real time. On November 30, along with LED lighting manufacturer Three S Inc., it will jointly release for sale the AI Makibishi Camera & Arukas Crime Prevention Street Light, which is equipped with an AI monitoring camera. This crime prevention street light is equipped with a solar panel and rechargeable battery, LED lighting, and LoRa wireless communication. The partnership with QuickLogic, particularly in the area of time series data processing, is expected to increase the performance of products and solutions.

QuickLogic has been consistently focused on development of semiconductor solutions, and its strength in particular is in time series data processing. In recent years, the company has exhibited expertise in SoC (system-on-a-chip) design targeting IoT endpoints (sensors), AI, security, and industrial application. SoC is an integrated circuit product in which the processor core as well as general micro-controller functions and application specific functions are integrated onto a single chip, and is designed to function as a system.

mtesNN will accelerate development of Edge AI under this partnership. By developing new services and solutions, the company aims to reach sales volume of 30 billion yen in the fiscal year ending March 2021.
